Chelsea's Choice

23 Mar

Year 8 students have watched the production of ‘Chelsea’s Choice’ this term, as part of their PSHE curriculum. The drama production, delivered by the AlterEgo Theatre Company, is innovative and powerful, highlighting the very serious and emotional issue of child sexual exploitation (CSE), and exploring further issues including grooming, peer-pressure, the inappropriate use of social media, domestic abuse and self-esteem.

Following the performance, actors facilitate a question-and-answer session to explore and discuss the issues raised.

Hosting this production provides an opportunity to encourage open discussion around difficult topics and helps to keep young people safe. Our hope is that students understand what makes a healthy and unhealthy relationship, how to use the internet safely, what consent is and are aware of the grooming process and child sexual exploitation and where they can go for help and advice.

Mrs Dixon, Head of PSHE, said; "Welcoming AlterEgo back into school has been extremely positive. Our students have been absorbed by the content of the play and it raises their understanding of child sexual exploitation which we have been talking about in our lessons. The actors explain the warning signs appropriately and sympathetically to enable our students to stay safe. Lottie, our School Dog attended the performance too, proudly sitting in and supporting the students. Thank you.”
