Design and Technology: Product Design
Product Design provides students with the skills they need to succeed in their chosen pathway.
Students will be able to recognise design needs and develop an understanding of how current global issues, including integrating technology, impact on today’s world.
This exciting course offers opportunities to develop design and manufacturing skillsin a creative and innovative way. Students will gain specialist knowledge in design, materials, manufacture, and marketing with an emphasis on industrial practice and the application of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture.
Students will be required to set their own design contexts and use iterative processes of design and manufacture to develop high quality prototypes. Due to the length of this process, students will need to be good coursework project managers.

Entry criteria
Grade 5 or equivalent pass in a design technology-based subject, or entry portfolio if not studied at GCSE.
Assessment
Written exam worth 50% and an extended ‘design and make’ project (approximately 80 hours) worth the other 50%.
