Applied Science - NEW!

This qualification is perfect for those that have an interest in Science and want to develop a deeper understanding of Scientific procedures and Investigative skills. It is a unit-based course consisting of four linked sections. Your knowledge is applied in project-based assessments. The focus of the course is the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education.

You will cover a range of Scientific skills and content from all areas of Science. This will be delivered in theory and practical lessons and through practical investigations supported by your teachers. You will have to complete four different units, over the two-year course. During your course you will need to be organised, meet deadlines and respond to feedback to develop the full range of skills assessed in this course. You will complete some externally set end of unit and synoptic exam style assessments, and some internally set investigation based assignments which you will be required to keep in a portfolio.

Careers

Vocational and academic University degrees in a range of Science related subjects such as engineering, criminology, nursing, forensics, food manufacturing, environment and conservation. Apprenticeships in food manufacturing, environment and conservation, animal health and breeding, engineering and aerospace.

Direct to employment in research science or as a technician.

Grade 4 in English and Maths and at least Grade 4 in three related subjects.

Assessment

58% Exam/42% Coursework.

Notes

BTEC National Extended Certificate is equivalent to 1 x A Level and achieves UCAS points.
