Joining our Sixth Form

Information for September 2022 starters

A message from Mr Warren:

GCSE results day is Thursday 25th August and the Sixth Form team will be on hand in the lower dining centre on Thursday 25th August and Friday 26th August, from 9am until 3pm. If your GCSE results match your A level offer, you will be able to enrol immediately with a member of the Sixth Form team. If your GCSE results do not match your A level offer, please come and speak to the team who will discuss your A level and BTEC subject choices and the options available to you. Please call us on results day on 01242 229511 to book an appointment. Every effort will be made to find a suitable curriculum pathway. We are here to help. 

The first day of term for Year 12 students is Wednesday 7th September 2022. Please arrive for 8.45am in full Sixth Form uniform. Lunch will be provided for Year 12 students on the Wednesday and the school day will end at 3.15pm. Year 13 start a day later on Thursday 8th September. 

We will write to all external Year 12 students following enrolment on the 25th August, to give details of which House you will be in to enable you to purchase a Sixth Form House tie from one of our two uniform suppliers. Current Cheltenham Bournside School students progressing from Year 11 will remain in their current House.

Ahead of your first day, please ensure you have filled out the following information forms:

  1. Learning partnership agreement
  2. Biometric registration consent
  3. Send information form
  4. Student data form

Please can parents/carers also sign up to our parent portal app, MCAS (My Child at School)which allows you to credit your child’s dining centre account and make online payments for school trips, tickets and items. 

Finally, please remember to complete the Summer Bridging Work set by our Sixth Form teaching team. This includes written work and pre-reading to help students prepare for success from the beginning of their course. Please bring this work in with you on your first day.

2022 Sixth Form entry open evening

Thursday 27th January 2022

We were delighted to invite students interested in joining our Sixth Form, to our open evening on Thursday 27th January 2022.Students and their parents/guardians heard from Headteacher, Mr Jefferies, Head of Sixth Form, Mr Warren and meet our outstanding teaching teams and student representatives. Guests were invited to explore our excellent resources and facilities, and to understand our extensive A Level and BTEC offer and entry requirements.

Sixth Form entry criteria 2022/23

At Bournside we invest a significant amount time in ensuring that both internal and external students applying to our Sixth Form are well suited to their chosen subjects.

We now offer three NEW pathways, designed to help you choose a selection of subjects that will help you to reach your future goals:

Pathway 1

Studying 3 or 4 A levels

Entry criteria is at least a grade 4 in Mathematics and English Language or Literature and at least a grade 5 in your three/four chosen subjects at A level.

Pathway 2

Studying 3 BTEC courses

Entry criteria is at least a grade 4 in Mathematics and English Language or Literature and at least a grade 4 in 3 related GCSEs.

Pathway 3

Studying a combination of BTEC courses and A levels

Entry criteria is at least a grade 4 in Mathematics and English Language or Literature and a bespoke offer of grade 4s and grade 5s depending on examination results.

Year 13 Progression Criteria

In order to progress successfully from Year 12 into Year 13, you need to have displayed adequate progress on your programme of study. Your place in Year 13 will be evaluated at the end of Year 12, and your attitude to learning, attendance, and progress across the year will inform your successful progression into Year 13.

Cheltenham Bournside School reserves the right to refuse progression into Year 13 based on any of these factors. If we decide that it is not in your best interest, an alternative offer will be made.
