Activities Week 2023

"I am pleased to introduce Cheltenham Bournside School’s first ever Activities Week which will take place in July 2023. It’s an ambitious timetable, offering a full week of trips and experiences for all of our students from Years 7-10 and 12.

"Activities Week will offer valuable educational experiences which can’t be delivered during the traditional school day. I know that students will return with stories to tell, increased self-confidence, greater motivation to learn new skills, improved communications skills, new friendships and a sense of pride and achievement.

"Thank you to all of the teaching and support staff involved in the planning and delivery of these opportunities. It is a huge responsibility to take students off site and to return them safely, especially on a residential trip but we know the value of these experiences and how much the students look forward to, and benefit from them."

Headteacher

With cultural opportunities in France, subject focused trips at Legoland, Warwick Castle and the Black Country Museum, outdoor activities and water sports at Year 9 Camp, Croft Farm, the Forest of Dean, Sandford Lido and the Wave, and further focused interest activities including Cyber, STEAM and employability, please read through the Activities Weeks Guide and the Year group invitation letters below for full details on how to select and book activities for each child.

Our Activities Week programme will continue to develop and diversify each year, following pupil and parent feedback and as staff propose and launch new trips. If you have any questions or feedback, please see our Activities Week FAQs below, or email activitiesweek@bournside.gloucs.sch.uk

Activities Week FAQs

Please look at the relevant Year group timetable to see which days your child is is able to select an out-of-school Activity Choice.

If there is more than one Activity Choice day in the relevant timetable, please specify which days (all/some/none) your child will be choosing an Activity.

Activity Choices include:

  • Alton Towers (Monday - Friday)
  • Croft Farm (Monday - Friday)
  • Go Ape (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Pedal a Bike Away  (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Planet Ice and Cribbs Causeway (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Sandford Lido (Monday - Friday)
  • The Wave (Thursday)

To allow us to sort and allocate places, all pupils must select three different activities for their Activity Choice slots, listed in order of preference. Therefore, please only list activities that your child will be happy doing.

Some trips are very popular and have a capped number of places. When first choice trips are full, we then move to second and third choice.

Your child should be happy do any of the choices they select.

If your child decides that they do not wish to attend an Enrichment Visit, they will stay in school and complete activities within the subject area of the visit.

For example: If your Year 8 child does not want to attend the Black County Museum trip, they will carry out fun and engaging work within the History department on that day. They will not be able to choose from the school-based activities on that day.

If your child decided that they do not wish to attend one (or all) of their the out-of-school Activity Choices, they can choose from some of the fun and engaging school-based activities that will be taking place.

Please note: Because the booking/organisation lead time is not as long for school-based activities, this programme will be announced at a later date.

The Pop-up Shop is an opportunity for students who are not attending an enrichment visit or extra-curricular Activities Choice trip on a particular day (due to a late Microsoft entry or originally not choosing to attend a trip) to buy a place on a trip from the remaining spaces.

The Pop-up Shop will run subject to availability of places.
