Armistice Day

At 11am today, students and staff gathered for a remembrance service to commemorate Armistice Day.

The service was opened by the head teacher, Gareth Burton. April and James, Head Girl and Head Boy, presented an inspiring speech followed by the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian poet and soldier who fought in the first world war.

Our very talented brass players – Thomas, Josh, David and Ella – introduced the two minutes silence with their rendition of The Last Post, followed by The Rouse. Alex and Jamie, Assistant Head Girl and Boy, closed the service with the infamous extract from “From the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning.

We will remember them.
