Lots to smile about – Bournside students celebrate GCSE success

Headteacher, Gareth Burton, said: “Bournside is once again celebrating another solid year of GCSE examination performances with its students. 64% of students achieved a pass in English and maths – the new ‘basics’ measure, with outstanding performances across a wide range of other subjects, including Mandarin Chinese, in which 67% of students achieved a GCSE grade 5 or higher and one in three students achieving a GCSE grade 7 or higher.”

“2018 is the first year that students receive the new GCSE grades in almost all their subjects. The success of our students this year is testament to the way in which they have adapted to the new GCSEs, but also the care and commitment that our teaching and non-teaching staff have demonstrated in delivering the more challenging, new GCSE specifications, in spite of the very demanding timeframe that the government gave schools to implement these changes two years ago.”

“We anticipate the large majority of our students remaining with us next year, to study in our large and successful sixth form, which offers over 35 different A Levels and other qualifications. If you would like further information regarding securing a place at our sixth form for September 2018, please contact Lisa Cullen (lmc@bournside.gloucs.sch.uk or 01242 235555) who will be able to respond to your query and if necessary, book an appointment with Mike Stratford (Head of Sixth Form) over the coming week.”
