Year 7 Music Evening

Judging by the amount and volume of applause, a packed hall hugely enjoyed all the performances by our talented Year 7 musicians in this year’s Year 7 Music Evening just before half-term. The evening got off to a rousing start with a performance of three sprituals by our massed group of singers. They performed with great gusto ending in a complicated three part round.

This was followed by 17(!) solo and duet items. A large number of different instruments were featured including Sam B performing on the Saxophone, Max P on the Ukulele, Evie L and Percy H on the Clarinet, Rory W on Drums, Katie W on the Cornet and James W on the Trumpet. Our excellent pianists were Tyler G, Eloise W, Toby J, Finn H and Molly L, who ended the first half with an impressive and complicated piece! Our singers were Sarah S, Katie E-J, Hannah W, Eliza T and Jocelyn B and Eliza T who sang a vocal duet. We heard a range of pop songs and songs from the shows.

The standard of all our soloists was really high and if anyone was nervous they managed to hide it completely!

The second half of the evening was a performance of Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – a very gruesome story told in a very light-hearted way in seven songs and a linking narration. Our seven narrators read the story loudly, clearly and with a lot of emotion. They were Naomi A, Amy B, Jocelyn B, Bethan H, Ben McK, Faye T and Izzy W.

Our five singing soloists were really outstanding – Tyler G (Sweeny Todd), Isobelle H (Tobias Ragg), Alex S (Mark Ingestrie), Olivia W (Joanna Oakley) and Katie E-J (Mrs Lovett). Like the narrators, all five threw themselves completely into their roles, singing beautifully!

A massive thank you to all our performers. What talent, what a great start to their Bournside musical careers and what potential for the future! After the concert, it was lovely to talk to so many parents who were justifiably very proud of their sons and daughters! Congratulations to everyone involved!
