Sixth Form
Cheltenham Bournside School has the
largest school-based sixth form in Gloucestershire.
Students may choose from 38 subjects at AS / A2,
including the new Applied A-levels in IT and Business.
English Language and Maths GCSE re-sit classes are
available to any student who does not achieve at least a
C grade.
Full details of all our courses, complete with entry
requirements and career possibilities may be found
either in the 2008-2009 Sixth Form Prospectus and Course
Guide available from the school, or simply by clicking
on the link at the bottom of this page. The Sixth Form
continues to have an excellent reputation that attracts
a huge diversity of talented young people, well over 100
from other schools around the county every year, and
around 175 of our own students. February 2006’s Ofsted
inspection deemed the Sixth Form to be ‘outstanding’,
the highest category of achievement.
The
Student Committee, elected by their peers, is already
planning a wide variety of activities to raise money for
charity, including the annual Fashion Show and the
events of Children in Need week. During the 2007-2008
academic year over £4000 was raised.
Sixth Form students are preparing for the art
appreciation trip to Florence at the end of October, and
a cross-curricular,10-day visit to India during the same
period. The World Challenge expedition to Kenya in 2007
was a huge success. Plans for the next expedition, to
Vietnam in July and August 2009, are well advanced and
other recent extra-curricular visits have included
whitewater rafting in the Italian Alps, skiing in
Austria and going behind-the-scenes at the United
Nations in Geneva.
The annual Sixth Form Awards Ceremony will be held in
the Main School Hall in December and is a lovely evening
of prize-giving and reminiscing, welcoming back many
successful students from the ‘Class of 2008’. |
